There is no Christianity without the Holy Spirit

So often people talk about the Holy Spirit as an ‘it’ – as if he was some mysterious entity.

But the Holy Spirit is an actual person – and not an ’it’.

The Holy Spirit has a mind

And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

(Romans 8:27)

The Holy Spirit has a will

All these are empowered by one and the same spirit, who apportions to each one individually as He wills.

(1 Corinthians 12: 11)

The Holy Spirit has emotions

I appeal to you, brothers, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to strive together with me in your prayers to God on my behalf.

(Romans 15: 30)

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

(Galatians 5: 22-23)

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

(Ephesians 4: 30)

The Holy Spirit comforts

So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was being built up. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it multiplied.

(Acts 9: 31)

The Holy Spirit speaks (in fact, clearly)

Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says,

Today if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness, where your fathers put me to the test and saw my works for forty years.

Therefore I was provoked with that generation and said, ‘they always go astray in their heart; they have not known my ways.’

As I swore in my wrath, they shall not enter my rest.”

(Hebrews 3: 7)

The Holy Spirit teaches

And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.

(1 Corinthians 2: 13)

The Holy Spirt can be grieved

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

(Ephesians 4: 30)

The Holy Spirit can be insulted

How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of Grace?

(Hebrews 10: 29)

The Holy Spirit can be resisted

You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do you.”

(Acts 7: 51)

And The Holy Spirit can be lied to

But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property, and with his wife’s knowledge he kept back for himself some of the proceeds and brought only a part of it and laid it at the Apostles’ feet.

But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land?

While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal?

Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to man but to God.

When Ananias heard these words, he fell down and breathed his last. And great fear came upon all who heard it. The young men rose and wrapped him up and carried him out and buried him.

After an interval of about three hours his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. And Peter said to her, “Tell me whether you sold the land for so much.”

And she said, “Yes, for so much.” But Peter said to her, “How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.”

Immediately, she fell down at his feet and breathed her last. When the young men came in and found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her beside her husband.

And great fear came upon the whole church and upon all who heard of these things.

(Acts 5: 1-11)

Therefore, our Christian faith, knowledge and beliefs would not exist without the Holy Spirit.

May you be greatly blessed upon the this wondrous Sabbath morn

I am an author and broadcaster. In January 2013 I very nearly died but our Father God healed me and I am still alive to tell the tale! I have written/edited several books about the Bible, God, the Holy Spirit and Jesus. My future ministry is focused on outreach. I do not just want to preach to the converted but to many people 'out there' who do not know Jesus as their Saviour and who are in great need of His love and compassion. Praise be to the Lord our God, our Heavenly Father
